Advanced Textiles Workshop

Monday 4 Nov 2024 to Friday 3 Jan 2025

This exhibition is the end of year work of students enrolled on the Advanced Textile Workshop, run by Amarjeet Nandhra. The course is offered at two different venues, Little Milton, Oxfordshire and South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell.

The emphasis is on the student's progress in developing their creative practice. During the first two terms, students work on set exercises, informed by their summer research. These exercises encourage sampling, experimenting and investigating different techniques and materials. For the remainder of the course, students work on their projects chosen by themselves. Deciding their initial concept, sampling with their chosen materials and techniques, and finally producing a resolved piece of work.

The aim is that all students produce a piece or body of work, for the exhibition. Students explore a range of themes that are personal to them. This year's themes include memories, the destruction of the natural environment, travels abroad, decay, structures and the coast.  These works encompass a variety of techniques directly related to or inspired by textile traditions. Each piece is a personal response, capturing the essence of the student's chosen theme.

An important part of the course is the opportunity for students to gain experience in producing high quality work to exhibit in a professional space and expose students to the realities and challenges of exhibiting their artwork. Cornerstone Arts Centre has provided this professional space within an exciting and vibrant arts community.
