After witnessing a murder, disco diva Deloris Van Cartier is placed in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she struggles to adapt to the rigid lifestyle and clashes with the uptight Mother Superior. However, her vibrant personality and musical talents breathe new life into the church's choir and community.
